Happy New Year!

Clearly the most memorable of Whining Kent Pig memories on or around New Year's Eve revolves around the family trip to Hartford which, I believe, was to attend some sort of memorial service for Grandpa Dwight.  I need to confirm that with some of the other Pigs before I give the whole story here, but the favorite quote comes from a stop at a gas station.  Mom asked the attendant to pump some gas for her, and somehow she only wanted $5 worth but would up with $10.  Who made the mistake?  Nobody really knows.  But Mom was getting very testy, and the bumbling attendant was starting to become apologetic and defensive...that is, until he looked inside the car and saw a load of snickering, smiling faces.  Heartened by the obvious humor the children were finding in this touchy situation, he threw caution to the wind, demanded the full $10 without argument, and followed it up with a sarcastic smile, wave, and "Happy New Year!"  All Mom could do was drive away and mutter to herself (and those of us smart enough not to laugh out loud) "This isn't turning out to be a very good...trip...".  Happy New Year, you stinking pigs!
