Another Wedding Curse?

No, probably just bad luck.

Tuesday night Heather was spending the evening with her daughter.  While outside her house hanging spider-web decorations, the not-always-so-graceful Heather twisted her right ankle badly and fell.  She spent the next hour with ice on it, keeping her leg elevated.  Then she drove home (a 5-minute drive) forced to use the left foot for the gas and brake.

Since then things have improved, but not all that much.  Heather can put weight on it, but side-to-side motion of her foot is either terribly painful or strangely impossible, leading me to believe she ripped apart some of the tendons or muscles or other necessary body parts.  I bought her some crutches and an ankle brace, and they've been helpful, but it is still a real problem for her to get around.  I have to driver her to and from work, and the stairs here at the apartment are a major pain in the rear end.

We'll be going to get an X-ray done today just to rule out anything broken.  With only 12 days left until the wedding, the odds are increasing that Heather will be forced to wear the ankle brace (or some other apparatus) during the ceremony, and the idea of walking down the long flight of stairs now seems out of reach unless she experiences a miraculous recovery.

Obviously the wedding will happen either way, but that still leaves the honeymoon plans up in the air.  The place we were going is a small town where we hoped to walk around quite a bit, going to old homes and exploring graveyards and other ghostly locations.  That's not looking very likely - to the point that we may have to delay the trip entirely after months of planning.  Maybe things will get better, but if they aren't by the middle of this week I think we'll throw in the towel and call the trip off.

Wish Heather a speedy recovery - it isn't too late, but time is short!
